Why Pianist and Composer Hauschka is Going All in on HEDD
October 20, 2021
German pianist and composer Hauschka uses HEDD monitors and the HEDDphone to get the neutral, objective view on music he needs to perfect his mixes.
Volker Bertelmann, also known under his composer name Hauschka has been living with the piano since childhood. He is fascinated by the many ways the instrument can sound, by the possibilities that arise from playing it in unconventional ways. He loves to experiment with tunings, unusual objects placed inside or attached to the hammers. In Hauschka's hands, a piano can sound like a drum kit, a visit to a toy store, a garage full of interesting forgotten stuff.
As a composer Bertelmann has been involved in countless theatre, ensemble, TV, and film productions, adding his always special and unique musical language to the mix. His collaborations range from working with Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn, to the iconic Icelandic band Múm, to scoring Garth Davis’s Lion, which he won the AACTA Award for. He has been nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA.
